Stevedores in Laxmipur Tuesday went on an indefinite strike unveiling an 11-point set of demands including introduction of food and security allowance.
The workers of vessels on Laxmipur-Bhola and Barishal routes announced the strike at 12 pm.
Their representatives communicated a willingess to talk, although the workers were running out of patience.
“We were patient through the Corona crisis. But now we are at the edge of tolerance,” a worker said.
The strike will continue until all the demands are met, he said.
Their demands also include stopping extortion on the river routes, and increased wages.
