Bangladesh Marine Academy Commandant Chartered Marine Engineer Sajid Hussain has been honoured with 'Outstanding Alumnus Award 2023' by World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö of Sweden.
The university Chancellor Dr Kitack Lim, also the secretary general of International Maritime Organisation (IMO), one of the 14 specialised agencies of the United Nations, handed over the award at the Graduation Ceremony of the WMU Class 2023 recently.
According to a circular published by WMU, Marine Engineer Sajid is a very long-standing supporter and promoter of WMU, and has been an active member of the WMU Board of Governors since October 2013.

He is an IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador, a Trustee & Council Member of IMarEST London and the President of Friends of WMU Bangladesh.
The award was introduced in 2012. So far, 16 persons, including Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, have been honoured with this award in the last 11 years.
Sajid studied MSc in Maritime Safety Administration at WMU during 1997-1998.

WMU was established in 1983 and is being managed by the IMO. Till 2022, with 5,807 alumni from 170 countries and territories, including 117 from Bangladesh, WMU has created a global network of leaders in the maritime and oceans sectors.
