The National Fisheries Week will begin in the country on Monday, aiming to raise people’s awareness about the importance of fish conservation and involve them in the socio-economic development of the country by increasing fish production.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on this occasion.

The slogan of this year's fisheries week is “Nirapad Mache Vorbo Desh, Gorbo Smart Bangladesh” (Let’s the country be filled with safe fish production and Build the Smart Bangladesh).

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has taken various initiatives on the occasion of National Fisheries Week across the country.

On the first day of the programme, a rally will be held at 8 am on Monday at the capital’s Manik Mia Avenue.

Besides, the Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim will hold a press conference at Matsya Bhaban at 10:30 am.

On the second day of the week, Speaker of the Parliament, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, will officially inaugurate a programme, scheduled to be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital at 10am.

She will also release fish fry in the lake of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at noon.

On this occasion, the National Fisheries Medal, 2023 will be awarded to 21 individuals and organizations in 8 fields in recognition of their significant contribution to the country's fisheries sector.

A colourful naval rally will be held at Hatirjheel at 4:00 pm on the 3rd day of the week-long programme.

On July 27 (fourth day of the week), the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute will organise a seminar at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council auditorium in Dhaka.

President Mohammed Sahabuddin will release fish fry in Bangabhaban pond at 5 pm on the same day.

On the occasion, the ministry has chalked out different programmes in Dhaka, district and upazila levels.

Apart from this, fish fry will be released in various reservoirs of the capital.

The fisheries week will end on July 30.
