A woman gave birth to a pair of conjoined girls at Atoa in Baraigram upazila on Monday morning.
Adori Begum, wife of rickshaw-puller Tajel Hossain of the village, gave birth to the conjoined twins with the help of a local midwife. But the family did not take her to hospital for treatment due to financial constraint.
After the incident came to light, Banpara municipality mayor Jakir Hossain visited the spot and sent the mother and the babies to Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
The babies have separate hands, legs and heads but single rectum and urinary system, said Dr Malay Kumar Roy of the hospital.
He said they referred the babies to Rajshahi or Dhaka for better treatment.
However, family members said they are unable to take the mother and babies there due to poverty.
