The tragedy occurred in a smuggling warehouse in Mezda, near the city of Gharyan, southwest of Tripoli where a group of migrants were being held. The 26 Bangladeshi citizens were killed while 12 others were injured in a gun attack on Thursday.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, the NHRC termed the incident "tragic" saying that there must be inquiry into it, said NHRC Public Relation Officer Farhana Sayed.
The Commissioned urged the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry to take necessary steps including communication with the Libyan government to ensure exemplary punishment of the perpetrators, as well as compensation for the family members of the victims.
The NHRC also urged the Bangladesh embassy in Libya for giving necessary cooperation, including treatment of the Bangladeshi migrants, who survived in the incident.
