Abdul Ahad Morol, 65, committed suicide by hanging himself at a grocery shop. His relatives found the body tied with a towel in a mango tree by the side of his house.
It is presumed that he hanged himself after offering fazr prayers as a prayer-cap was found on the head of the body.
Toriqul Islam, son of the old man, filed a UD case qirh Monirampur police station in this connection.
Abdul Ahad Morol, son of late Abul Kashem Morol of village Batbila of the upazila, had a grocery shop in the khas land at local Durbadanga bazaar.
Toriqul Islam, the son of the deceased said that the government has evicted 10-25 shops on the khas land of the bazaar two weeks back. “Of them we had a shop there. My father used to sell grocery items there for a long time with which our family expenses including study cost of our three brothers was being maintained.”
“After the demolition of the shop my father became mentally upset. We tried to console him in many ways,” he added.
“On Friday (October 4 ) my mother went to my maternal grandfather’s house at village Durbadanga to attend a marriage ceremony and for this father stayed alone at night in the house. At one moment during morning after Fazr prayers he committed suicide. We think he committed suicide out of frustration,” he mentioned.
Shomen Biswas, SI of Monirampur police station, said it is presumed primarily that the old man Abdul Ahad Morol committed suicide due to financial hardship. After recovery, the body has been sent to morgue.
Abdul Mannan, surveyor of Monirampur Upazila Land Office, said that “Concrete shops is being constructed on behalf of LGED office by evicting temporary shops from the khas land at Durbadanga Bazar”.
