The election inquiry committee has recommended taking legal action against Tasmima Hossain, wife of Jatiya Party (JP-Manju) candidate for Pirojpur-2 constituency Anwar Hossain Manju, for violating the electoral code of conduct.
On January 3, KM Mohiuddin, chairman of the committee and joint and sessions judge of the district, sent a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal in this regard.
Earlier on December 22, Tasmima Hossain made derogatory remarks involving Rokeya Begum, a reserved member of Pirojpur Zila Parishad. In view of this, Rokeya submitted written complaints to various offices concerned, including the Election Commission and the District Returning Office.
Before sending the report to the Election Commission, the committee issued a show-cause notice to Tasmia in the wake of Rokeya Begum's complaint.
Tasmia was asked to give a written statement in person or through a representative.
But she did not respond, the committee reported.
The chairman of the committee then analyzed the complainant's statement, various audio videos and newspaper news.
Later, it was recommended to the Chief Election Commissioner to take legal action against Tasmima Hossain for violating the electoral code of conduct.
In the written complaint to the Election Commission and the district returning office, Rokeya Begum mentioned that at an election meeting in Gouripur union of Bhandaria upazila on December 22, Tasmima Hossain said, "Rokeya sold the girls of Gouripur of Bhandaria in Dhaka. They have made the girls of this village into sex workers. ’
