The prime minister formally inaugurated the Uttara-Agargaon section of MRT-6 on December 28 last year. At first, only three stations on this route were open to the public. Later, all nine stations on the Uttara-Agargaon route became operational in phases.
Currently, the metro rail runs for 12 hours -- from 8 am to 8 pm -- six days a week.
At the seminar, Quader stressed the need to improve the environment of Dhaka city and said: “Garbage cannot be dumped everywhere; cigarettes cannot be smoked everywhere. Designated spots need to be fixed. Brick kilns around Dhaka should be stopped. We have to do this for the sake of our existence.”
