Savar, Oct 23 (UNB) – After a video of a woman cutting down plants in rooftop garden maintained by another tenant in her apartment block became viral, police on Wednesday detained the culprit from her residence at CRP Road in the district.
The arrestee was identified as Khaleda Akhtar Lucky, wife of advocate Selim Al Din. Khaleda admitted to her crime and is apparently repentant after being shown the video.
AFM Sayed, officer-in-charge of Savar police station, said the woman was sent to court after a case was filed against her for violating laws related to cutting trees.
According to Sumaiya Habib, who planted the rooftop garden, Khaleda destroyed the plants with a machete yesterday following a feud.
Khaleda even threatened to kill her when Sumaiya requested her to stop, she said.
The video created a huge outrage across the country as people flooded the video post with comments, said Abdullah Al Mahfuz, executive magistrate and assistant commissioner (land) of Savar.
