The demands include elimination of pay disparity as well as implementation of salaries in the 11th grade for the assistant teachers and 10th grade for headmasters.
Anisur Rahman, Convener of the Bangladesh Primary Teachers Oikkya Parishad, made the announcement at the Doyel Chattar on the campus of Dhaka University, after police thwarted their gathering in front of the Central Shaheed Minar.
"If our demands are not met within the given time, the annual examinations will be boycotted and all primary schools will be sealed," he said.
Earlier, teachers gathered on the road beside the Shaheed Minar as police prevented them from staging their demonstration there. Later they moved to Doyel Chattar area before the announcement.
Currently trained assistant teachers in government primary schools receive salaries in the 14th grade and untrained assistant teachers in 15th grade.
Trained headmasters get their salary in the 11th grade and the untrained headmasters get their salary in the 12th grade under the current scheme.
