The President said while an ICB delegation led by Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Mortuza Ahmed submitted its annual report 2019 to him at Bangabhaban in the afternoon.
Terming the RTI Act a very important tool for ensuring accountability and transparency in government activities in all stages, he said: “If the people can be properly made aware of the law, it’ll help prevent corruption at all levels in the society and also check wastage of government resources.”
The delegation apprised the President of various activities undertaken as part of the awareness campaign of the commission involving the grassroots people.

CIC Ahmed informed the President that the commission was making continuous efforts to raise public awareness about the RTI Act at the grassroots level and various motivational programmes are being carried out involving district, upazila and union level government officials, public representatives and local dignitaries.
Referring to their ongoing activities even during the pandemic, Mortuza said virtual training programme on it is being held since the outbreak began.
Receiving the report, President Hamid expressed his satisfaction over the overall activities of the commission, suggesting them to strengthen its overall activities.
The delegation also sought cooperation of the President in running the commission’s overall activities.
Secretary to the President Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Maj Gen SM Shamim-Uz-Zaman and Secretary (attached) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were also present there.
