The demand was made in a press release issued on Thursday.
According to the press release signed by Duta President ASM Maksud Kamal and General Secretary Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, Saraswati Puja is a major religious festival of the Hindu community. “The puja is celebrated at all educational institutions across the country but it’s unfortunate that polls to the two Dhaka city corporations will be held on the same day,” it said.
Students in Dhaka will not be able to celebrate the puja smoothly as these educational institutions will be used as polling centres during the elections, the organisation said.
Mentioning that there is a possibility that anarchy might be created centring the issue, it hoped that the EC will reconsider the decision.
Meanwhile, a group of DU students went on a hunger strike in front of Raju Sculpture on the campus on Thursday, demanding deferment of the polls.
