Teachers of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) observed a half-day work abstention on Wednesday demanding the withdrawal of the notification issued by Ministry of Finance on the universal pension scheme.
Besides, they formed a human chain in front of the Bangabandhu Mural under the initiative of the University Teachers Association.
Chaired by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shafi Ullah Bhuiyan, president of the University Teachers Association, the human chain program was conducted by its general secretary Dr. Muhammad Al Mamun.
However, the ongoing exams of the university were outside the purview of the strike.
Teachers will also observe half-day work assentation on Thursday.
Additionally, they will go on indefinite strike from July 1 after observing a full-day work abstention on June 30, said the speakers.
“During the strike, no hall provost, departmental chairman, or even teachers in administrative charge will perform any duties. And, it will happen not only in Sylhet Agricultural University but all universities in Bangladesh,” they warned.
They will continue the protest until the pension scheme is scrapped, they said.
