Residential houses and other institutions under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area have been ordered to separate sewage lines from storm water drains, canals, lakes and other water bodies within March 31.

Connecting sewage lines to storm water drain, canals, lakes and other water bodies is illegal and punishable under the Local Government (City Corporation) Act 2009.

For a proper sewage system, residential, business and other buildings have to install septic tanks and soakwells according to the government’s directions.
Yet many buildings have linked their sewage lines with DNCC’s storm water drains and other water bodies posing a serious threat to the environment.

DNCC has requested everyone to take proper measures of sewage lines for their buildings.
