Sheikh Russel Day will be observed across the country and embassies abroad on Wednesday marking the birthday of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Born on October 18 in 1964, Sheikh Russel was brutally killed along with most of the family members of Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975 .
The government declared October 18 as Sheikh Russel Day in 2021.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak gave this information in a press conference at BCC Auditorium at ICT Tower in Agargaon on Tuesday.
On the occasion, the day will begin with the placing of wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Russel.
At 8 am, the ICT Department and Sheikh Russel National Children and Adolescent Council will place a wreath at the portrait of Sheikh Russel at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
A colourful rally will be brought out from BICC at 8:30 am marking the day.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Sheikh Russel Day-2023 at 10 am at BICC and will distribute Sheikh Russel Award-2023 and ‘Smart Bangladesh’ award.
She is expected to inaugurate Sheikh Russel Animation Lab and other programmes and will lay the foundation stone of 10,000 Sheikh Russel Digital Lab, Robotix Corner, 555 Joy Set Center, DoICT#2041 SMART Tower and University Innovation Hub.

Various programs including discussion meetings will be held at all departments, districts and upazila levels of the country. Drawing, chess, national football tournament, cultural competition will be held under the initiative of Sheikh Russel National Children and Adolescent Council.
Palak also unveiled the logo of Sheikh Russel Day 2023.
