The authorities declared they would sell the onions till the amount allocated each day for sale on trucks is sold out.
The TCB is selling onions at Tk 45 per kg in Khulna metropolitan and 12 districts to control the onion price in the market in Khulna division. Each person is eligible to buy a kilogram.
The spice was on sale at Moilapota intersection even after evening where buyers were seen purchasing onion in queue.
Sirajul Islam, a resident of Miapara area of Khulna, said that those who buy onions regularly know where and when the spice would be sold on any given day.
Hashi Begum of Dolkhola intersection said, “There is no time table of onion sale. Whoever sees that it is being sold somewhere joins the queue to buy onion.”
Khobir Hossain, who sells through a truck, said “The onion is being sold on the basis of the availability of allocated onion. There is nothing like day or night.”
Robiul Morshed, Head of TCB Khulna regional office, said “The allocated onion is being sold as long as in stock and if not in stock there would be no sale. People’s suffering is reduced through such sale.”
