The TCB for the first time included rice in the product list and a customer can buy up to 5 kg of rice at the rate of Tk 30 per kg, said a press release.

A consumer through a family card can buy a maximum of 2.0 litres of soybean oil, 2 kgs of lentils, 1 kg of sugar, and 5 kgs of rice. This time the price of lentils has been reduced by Tk 10 per kg.

TCB was not selling rice even though it sold soyabean oil, lentils, sugar and onion, and some other products.
However, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi announced the sale of rice along with other products at the opening ceremony of TCB's product sale programme last June. Accordingly, the TCB is going to start selling rice now. The food ministry will supply this subsidised rice to TCB.
