A 16-year-old boy has committed suicide over his family's refusal to buy a motorcycle for him in Meherpur's Mujibnagar upazila on Friday.
The deceased Sohan was the son of Mofizur Rahman of Bazar Para area of Purandarpur village of the upazila.
Sohan committed suicide by hanging himself at his house this noon, Mujibnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ujjal Dutta confirmed.
Shahjahan, a member of Daryapur Union Parishad, said Sohan had been demanding a motorcycle for some days. His parents initially did not agree to buy the motorcycle but later agreed to buy the motorcycle due to his excessive pressure.
This morning, he pressured his parents to buy a motorcycle again. At one point, his mother slapped him.
Being agitated, Sohan committed suicide by hanging with a fan in the house in secret. Later, family members rescued him and took him to Mujibnagar Health Complex where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Mujibnagar police station officer-in-charge OC Ujjal Kumar Dutta said as there was no complaint, the body was handed over to the family.
