The accident took place when the Chattogram-bound ‘Bijoy Express’ hit the Khagrachhari-bound bus of ‘S Alam Paribahan’ around 4 am, leaving Sunimal dead on the spot and 26 passengers injured, said Robiul Azam, station officer of Mirsarai Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Of the injured, an unidentified man died on the way to hospital, he said.
Rail communications on Dhaka-Chattogram route were disrupted for two and half hours following the accident.
Meanwhile, the Railways authorities formed a four-member committee, headed by Firoz Iftekhar, divisional traffic officer of Railway East zone, to look into the accident, said Jahangir Hossain, manager of Divisional Railway east zone.
The other members of the committee are divisional mechanical engineer, divisional engineer-1 and divisional signal telecommunication engineer.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within three days.
