A Chuadanga court on Monday sentenced 12 people to 10 years imprisonment and acquitted four in a case filed for robbery in 2010.
Judge of Chuadanga Additional District and Sessions Court-2 Md Masud Ali gave the verdict and also fined each of the convicts Tk10,000 taka, in default of which they will have to serve three more months in jail.

The convicts, Kabir Hussain, Raham Ali, Soleman Haq, Bokul Mia, Anowar Hossain, Masud Rana, Aroz Ali, Faruq Hossen, Mohammad Ali, Abdul Hannan, and Tobi Mia, were present at the court during the verdict, while Abdul Hannan is absconding.
Akher Ali, Abdul Khalek, Haider Ali, and Shohel Rana were acquitted of the charges.

According to the case statement, on April 7, 2010, all the accused attacked the house of Nurul Islam and his cousin KAbir Hossain in Jibannagar’s Nidhikundu late at night and took Tk 41,800 anda gold earring worth Tk10,000.
Later, the victim filed a case against 10–15 anonymous robbers at Jibannagar Police Station. After the investigation, Mohabbat Ali, the investigation officer of the case, filed a charge sheet in court against 17 convicts on April 16, 2011. The judge announced the verdict after hearing the testimony of 10 witnesses out of 17.

Giyas Uddin, the state counsel, said the court has ordered the police to arrest those absconding convicts.
Fazlee Rabbi, the accused's counsel, said, The verdict will be appealed to the High Court.
