The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has won the Social Science Silver Award for 2021 at the Wharton–Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Reimagine Education Awards, widely revered as the "Oscars of education."
The Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF), an outreach program of the media studies and journalism department of ULAB, made the university's entry possible.
The DIMFF tries to inspire creativity in storytelling with limited resources. It encourages filmmakers to harness the immense possibilities of disseminating authentic narratives, support communities to tell their own stories, using their voices.
The DIMFF has an executive body and a core team of volunteers who work year-round to ensure the festival's success.
The Social Science Gold Award went to the Pompeu Fabra University of Spain for its ambitious international programme to generate and transmit new knowledge about the concept of planetary wellbeing.
The bronze award was given to the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne of Switzerland for "virtual reality (VR) immersive experimental learning: virtual housekeeping."
For 2021, the awards were held from December 6 to 10. More than 1100 projects competed for awards in over 25 categories.
The judging criteria included project approach, project engagement, project impact, scalability and competitor comparison or uniqueness.
