Azizul Haque Mallick, a prominent politician, social worker of Shariatpur, died at a hospital in the capital on Tuesday. He was 96.
He breathed his last at Azgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka at around 1:30 PM.
Mallick has been undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past five-six days due to sickness.
He was survived by his wife, four sons, one daughter and a host of relatives, friends, colleagues and admirers.
His second elder son Moinul Haque Manju is a former Commissioner of Dhaka South City Corporation.
Other children live in the United States. Sister Hosne Ara Begum is a former Principal of Mohammadpur Government Women's College.
His political career began in Dhaka's Golapbagh in the company of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He was a close associate of national leader late Abdur Razzaq.
Mallick was the adviser of the Shariatpur district unit Awami League.
Mallick's first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Tikatuli Jame Masjid in Dhaka at 10:00am on Wednesday.
Later, he will be buried in the family graveyard following a second Janaza after Zohar prayer at Burirhat Jame Masjid in Shariatpur and the third Janaza after Asr at Manua Eidgah Maidan, respectively.
Enamul Haque Shamim, MP, Member of Parliament for Shariatpur-3 Constituency, Nahim Razzak, Shariatpur Journalist Association, Dhaka President Benazir Ahmed and General Secretary Asaduzzaman Azam expressed deep shock over the demise of the politician.
