A wild elephant was found dead at Katabari along the border in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur district on Monday.
Mohammad Quamruzzaman, wild animal conservation officer of the Department of Forest, Sherpur, said the 14-feet long elephant might have died due to old age.
“A hole was found on the left side abdomen of the elephant but it might be a ‘cyst’ or old injury mark,” he said.
The actual reason behind the death could be known after getting the autopsy report, he said.
According to the local people, coming from the hill area it fell down and died beside the land of one Abdus Sattar on Sunday night.
Later, they informed it to local forest department office.
