“The possibility of cultivating mushrooms is very high in the country. We must use this. If mushroom cultivation can be expanded or made popular, then it will play a big role in the economy of the country,” he said.
The Minister made the remarks at a views-exchange meeting with farmers, entrepreneurs involved with mushrooms at the Ministry.
Noting that many educated young men are struggling to get jobs, the Minister said: “If the young men became entrepreneurs through training, then it can be possible to create local and international markets for mushrooms.
“If we want to expand mushroom cultivation, we need more research on it and for this we can use the experts of mushroom cultivation. Besides, we have to strengthen the power of the Mushroom Development Institute."
According to Mushroom Development Institute, the production of mushrooms is increasing rapidly as 40,000 metric tonnes of mushroom worth Tk 800 crore is being produced in the country every year.
Besides, 1.5 lakh people are directly involved in the production and manufacturing of the mushroom.
