Grameenphone and Banglalink are the two main competitors in Bangladesh's mobile phone service sector when it comes to quality and capabilities, according to a report by Opensignal.

Opensignal, a company that monitors and analyses the overall performance of mobile services, has published the "Network Experience Report" on the mobile sector in Bangladesh considering the data from April 1 to June 29 this year.

The company categorised the different aspects of mobile services of Banglalink, Grameenphone, Robi and Teletalk into 10 metrics under three categories – overall experience, coverage, and consistency.

In most of the 10 metrics of the three categories, there is fierce competition between Banglalink and Grameenphone.

According to the detailed information in the report, although one company topped the others in terms of point calculation, the difference in points was trivial in almost all cases.

However, Robi is at par with Banglalink and Grameenphone in terms of the availability of cable networks and 4G connectivity.

According to Opensignal, Grameenphone dominates the service consistency category whereas Banglalink stays ahead in terms of the overall experience. It identified Grameenphone, Banglalink and Robi as joint winners in network coverage.

Banglalink ranks first in download speed. The operator has been awarded "Download Speed Experience" by Opensignal.

The highest average download speed on Banglalink's network is 10 megabits per second (Mbps), 1.2 Mbps ahead of second-placed Grameenphone. Robi and Teletalk are in third and fourth place, with scores of 6.8 Mbps and 4.4 Mbps.

Grameenphone has been awarded the "Upload Speed Experience Award." The highest average upload speed on the company's network is 4.1 Mbps. Banglalink sits in second place with 3.4 Mbps speed. The upload speed on Robi's network is 2.7 Mbps and Teletalk's speed is less than 2 Mbps.

Banglalink won the "Game Experience Award" and "Voice App Experience Award." In addition, in the video experience metrics, Banglalink and Grameenphone fared equally well.

Grameenphone dominates consistency in the service category.

While Banglalink dominates most of the overall experience categories, Grameenphone holds the throne for service consistency.

Grameenphone is ahead of Banglalink when it comes to achieving points in the two categories – excellent consistent quality and core consistency.

In the excellent consistent quality category, OpenSignal primarily reviewed a network's capability to perform relatively complex tasks such as group video calls, and in terms of technology, the ability to perform relatively simple tasks such as web browsing was taken into account under core consistent quality.

Grameenphone holds the top position in terms of 4G connectivity. It achieved 7.3 points out of 10 points in this metric. Robi is in second place with 6.7 points.
