The actor passed away at a city hospital on Monday night at the age of 58.
According to his family sources, Shahin’s namaz-e-janaja was held at Niketan Mosque after Fazr prayers on Tuesday and then he was laid to rest beside his brother and daughter’s grave, which the actor wished in his lifetime.
Earlier, he was admitted to the Asgar Ali Hospital, Old Dhaka in the capital and put on life support on Saturday, after he tested positive for COVID-19.
Shahin Alam was diagnosed with kidney disease five years ago and had been regularly undergoing dialysis at the Gonoshasthaya Kendra Hospital in Savar.
His friend, noted actor and Bangladesh Film Club president Omar Sani attended his last rituals. The actor also confirmed the news of Alam’s departure on Tuesday morning on his Facebook.
Debuted with the film Mayar Kanna in 1991 after participating in a talent hunt competition titled Notun Mukher Sondhane organised by Bangladesh Film Development Corporation in 1986, Shahin Alam earned enormous popularity among the Dhallywood audience till 2011.
The actor retired from acting after his film Daroaner Chhele was released in 2011 and decided to live his life following proper religious guidance, which he embraced after his daughter committed suicide.
After leaving the film industry, Shahin Alam made a living as a businessman. He continued to actively operate his readymade clothing shop in-person at the Gausia Market in the capital.
In his illustrious career, Shahin Alam had acted in over 150 films namely Hothat Brishti, Ghater Majhi, Gariber Sangsar, Teji, Prem Protishodh, Tiger, Swapner Nayak, Big Boss, Papi Shontan, Ajana Shatru, Bidrohi Salauddin, Dhakaia Mastan and more.
