A case has been filed against 5000 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in connection with the vandalism in Dhaka’s Shahbagh in the early hours of Tuesday over the death of war crimes convict Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.
Sub-Inspector Md Jabbar of Shahbag Police Station filed the case on Tuesday night.
Officer-in-charge of Shahbag Police Station Noor Mohammad said, four people were named in the case but didn’t disclose their names.
He also said charges of obstructing government work, attack and setting fire to vehicles were made in the case.
The clash broke out between Jamaat men and police in front of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) around 5:30 am on Tuesday, when Jamaat-Shibir activists staged a protest around the ambulance carrying the body of convicted war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.

At the time, they demanded that Sayeedi’s janaza be held in Dhaka. Later, police rushed to the spot and fired tear gas shells to disperse them.
Delwar Hossain Sayeedi passed away on Monday night while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
