Amar Bangladesh Party, or AB Party, on Sunday demanded the immediate and unconditional release of pro-democracy prisoners including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
It also demanded a stop to the police crackdown.
The party made the demand at a press conference at its central office in Paltan on Sunday.
The party said the security officials used excessive force to disperse protesters who were "peaceful."

The police had no reasons to fire tear gas, rubber bullets, and use sound grenades against the unarmed protesters, it said.
Party leaders including Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahab Minar, Advocate Tajul Islam, Mojibur Rahman Monju and Asaduzzaman Fuaad spoke on the occasion.
