BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday warned that the people of Bangladesh would resist any effort by the government to hold another unilateral national election, as in 2014.
Speaking at a discussion, he also said there is no alternative for BNP to making their ongoing one-point movement to restore democracy and the voting and other lost rights of the people a success.

"The Awami League ministers often say that BNP is conspiring. It’s you (AL) who are plotting. You have snatched all the rights of the people of this country and don’t allow people to cast their votes,” the BNP leader said.
He alleged that the ruling party is planning to hold another lopsided polls without any competition and make political gains in an empty field.
“The people of this country have decided not to let it happen anymore. Awami League will not get a walkover this time as people will put up a resistance against it,” the BNP leader said.
Uttar Banga Chhatra forum and Bangladesh Chhatra Forum jointly arranged the programme at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), marking BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 16th jail release day.
Tarique, arrested in March 2007 after the 1/11 political changeover, was released on bail on September 3 the following year.

Fakhrul called upon the youth to come forward to remove the current government from power. "Come up with fresh vigour and put up a resistance against the government. We must resist, suppress and defeat this monstrous regime that is destroying our nation and our future and turning our country into a failed state.”
He further said, "Let’s move forward and achieve victory and repay the debts of thousands of our leaders and workers who have sacrificed their lives and comfort the families of the 600/700 leaders and workers who have been subjected to enforced disappearance and free 40 lakh people who are being tortured.”
The BNP leader said the government is afraid of getting ousted in the face of the current movement. “Out of fear, they are desperate to find ways to deter and suppress the soldiers of democracy.”
He said their party’s only goal is to restore democracy and people’s rights by achieving victory in the current movement. “There is no way left for us to back off from this movement.”
