A Dhaka court has placed Chhatra Odhikar Parishad President Bin Yamin Mollah on a one-day remand in a case filed with Motijheel Police Station for allegedly attacking police during a protest against the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence.
The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin passed the order on Monday.
Bin Yamin Molla was arrested by the Detective Branch on August 1. The next day, he got bail in a case filed by the building owner with Paltan Police Station in connection with the vandalism of the Office of the Gono Odhikar Parishad.
However, DB Sub-Inspector Khan Moniruzzaman, the investigating officer of the case, sought a 10-day remand for questioning Bin Yamin in another case filed with Motijheel Police Station for allegedly attacking police during protests over the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021.
The court fixed August 7 for hearing the petition and ordered Yamin to be sent to jail.
Bin Yamin was produced before the court today on the occasion of the remand hearing.
At the hearing, the lawyers on behalf of the accused filed a bail application for cancellation of the remand. The state opposed the bail.
After the hearing, the judge granted him a one-day remand, said Motijheel Police Station General Registration Officer Sub-Inspector Shah Alam.
Bin Yamin was arrested by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on August 1.
Nurul Haque Nur, president of a faction of Gono Odhikar Parishad, alleged that the DB arrested Bin Yamin Molla by breaking the door of his house in Hatirjheel area of the capital.
