BNP senior leader Mirza Abbas on Monday called upon their party leaders and activists to get united to ensure the fall of the current ‘repressive regime’ through a strong movement.
“The country is now under the grip of a terrible evil force like the ghost of Sindbad of Arabic novel…this evil force has been oppressing the leaders and activists of different political parties, including BNP, to cover up its misdeeds,” he said.

The BNP leader said, “I would like to say, our people, our leaders and workers must resist repressive acts. We’ll have to realise our right to speak and our freedom. That’s why we all need to be united.”
He made the remarks while inaugurating food and clothes distribution programmes by BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, marking late party founder Ziaur Rahman’s 40th death anniversary.
BNP senior leaders distributed food and clothes among the destitute at different points of the capital for the second day on Monday to mark Zia’s death anniversary.
Zia founded BNP in 1978. He was assassinated by some army officers at Chittagong Circuit House on May 30, 1981.
Abbas, a BNP standing committee member, accused the current government of plundering public money. “As long as they’re in power, the fate of people won’t be changed. Only some people will amass wealth depriving the common people under the current regime.”
He claimed that people liberated the country under the leadership of BNP founder Zaiur Rahman.
“The independence of this country was not achieved by Awami League. Those who didn’t liberate the country and those who only heard the story of independence have now imposed their misrule on us. We the BNP leaders and workers will surely change this situation and that day is not far away,” the BNP leader said.
