Awami League leader and former religious affairs minister Motiur Rahman died in Mymensingh on Sunday night due to old-age complications. He was 81.
Motiur Rahman, a valiant freedom fighter and Ekushey Padak awardee, breathed his last around 11:00 pm while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mymensingh.
The namaz-e-janaza of Motiur Rahman, also former president of Mymensingh district Awami League, will be held at the Anjuman Eidgah Maidan in the city after Asr prayers, his son Muhit-Ur-Rahman Shanto confirmed UNB.

He said that his two sisters live in Australia and they are coming to the country.
After their arrival, his father will be buried at the family graveyard after a second namaz-e-janaza tomorrow (Tuesday).
Born in 1942 at Akua village in Mymensingh Sadar upazila, he served as a member of the advisory committee of the Bangladesh Awami League until his death.
Besides, he taught at Nandina College in Jamalpur and later at Nasirabad College in Mymensingh.
He founded Alamgir Mansur Mintu Memorial College in 1969 and served as its principal until 2002.

He was elected member of parliament(MP) from Mymensingh-4 constituency in 1986 and 2008.
In 2014, he was appointed the minister of religious affairs.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.
