Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tajul Islam on Saturday said that the Election Commission (EC) will conduct elections in the country as per the constitution.
"If BNP does not come to the election, it is not the responsibility of Awami League to bring them to the election," he said, speaking at the handover ceremony of Karnaphuli Water Supply Project (KWSP), Phase-2 in Chattogram WASA as the chief guest.
He also said that it is expected that political parties will contest elections to come to power for public welfare.
“Once there was no good water system in Chattogram. Condition of the water supply system with WASA was disappointing. The government has taken one project after another to solve the water crisis in Chattogram. As a result there is no water problem in Chittagong now.”
He said that the BNP government did not take any project to solve the water crisis in Chattogram. The people of Chattogram marched for water on the streets. And now there is no crying for water in Chattogram, he added.
Thanking Japan's JICA for financing the Chattogram WASA project, Tajul Islam said that Japan is a true friend of Bangladesh. Japan has always stood by Bangladesh since independence. As a result of the implementation of these projects, the people of different regions of Bangladesh are enjoying various advantages and their quality of life is improving. Japan's role in the sustainable development of Bangladesh is immense, the minister remarked.
