BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas on Thursday alleged that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was subjected to slow poisoning while she was in jail.
He said this at a milad mahfil seeking doa for quick recovery of Khaleda Zia at the party's Nayapaltan central office in the capital this noon. The milad mahfil was organized by Sramik Dal.

Mirza Abbas said that Khaleda Zia requires improved treatment right now.
“Although doctors have recommended sending her abroad for treatment, the government is not giving permission,” he said.
The BNP leader said, "Khaleda Zia is currently in detention without having committed any crime. However, individuals like Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Maya Chowdhury, and Haji Selim from the Awami League remain beyond the reach of law despite committing crimes,"

Mirza Abbas expressed a strong determination to break the “shackle of injustice.”
"We have to remember that this is not just about the release of the country's leader Begum Khaleda, it’s also about the freedom of the people of the whole country, the freedom of sovereignty, the freedom of the people's right to vote in the country," he said.
"The chairperson is in jail today. We couldn't free her. That's our weakness. She never compromised for sake of the country and its people. Had she been among us right now, the country would not be in this situation today,” Abbas added.
