Bashundhara Kings created history in the country' s football by clinching the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football title for a record 4th time in a row beating Sheikh Russel KC by 6-4 goals at their home ground --Bashundhara Sports Complex here on Friday.
League leader Bashundhara Kings, which needed just an outright victory against former champions Sheikh Russel KC in Friday's match to assure the league crown with three more matches to spare, finally achieved their target amid huge enthusiasm among their fans.
In the day's vital match, Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes made a hattrick scoring four goals in the 6th, 50th, 65th and 76th minutes respectively
Another Brazilian striker Robson Robinho and local medio Shekh Mostakim scored one goal each for the Kings in the added time of the first half (45+3 and 45+5 minutes).
Nigerian booter Kenneth Ikechukwu struck twice for Sheikh Russel KC in the 69th and 90th minutes while medio Sujon Biswas and Dipok Roy scored the remaining goals for Russel KC in the 26th and 38th minutes respectively.
The Kings clinched the hattrick title of BPL Football winning the 2018-19, 2020-21 and 2021-22 leagues.
However, the BPL was abandoned once in the 2019-20 season due to the Corona Pandemic..

But, Dhaka Wanderers Club was the first team to clinch the Dhaka First Division Football League title for the 3rd consecutive times in the Pakistan era in the 1953, 1954 and 1956 seasons. The league was abandoned in 1955 due to flood.

After the day's match, Bashundhara Kings celebrated their 4th consecutive league crown with three more matches to spare securing 46 points from 17 matches while Federation Cup champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd are in the distant 2nd place with 34 points from 17 encounters.
In a battle of two old rivals, Dhaka Abahani Limited shared points with Dhaka Mohammedan SC in 1-1 draw at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla.

In an another league battle of two lowly teams-- Chittagong Abahani Ltd beat relegation bound Azampur FC, Uttara by 1-0 goal at the Bir Shreshta Fl Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Friday.
Emtiaz scored the match-winner for Ctg Abahani in the 83rd minute.
