Despite winning over Saudia Arabia by 2-1, Mexico are out of the FIFA World Cup. They got the same points as Polland, but they fell behind on the goals scored, and thus just a win was not enough for them to avoid the heartbreaking World Cup exit.
As Polland have better fair play points, Mexico would have been exited even if they had the same points, and the same goal scored.

In the other match of Group C, Argentina beat Polland by 2-0, and they advanced to the round of 16.
Mexico needed to win over Saudi Arabia and have more goals than Polland. But they failed to do so. Let alone scoring more goals, they, in contrast, conceded a goal in the extra time when Al Dawsari ran into and scored for Saudi Arabia.
When Saudi Arabia got the goal, Mexico were rushing for a third goal that would have helped them to march to the next round.

Earlier in the match, Henry Martin scored for Mexico in the 47th minute. Five minutes later, Luis Chavez doubled the difference. They also got some more chances but failed to capitalize on those.
It was the first time since the 1990 World Cup that Mexico failed to advance from the group stage. The win against Saudi Arabia was a consolation for the Mexican side.
