Pakistan cricket legend Shahid Afridi has been unveiled as the latest ambassador for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, joining a prestigious lineup that includes Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, and Usain Bolt.
The former Pakistani all-rounder, known for his explosive batting and electrifying presence on the field, will participate in promotional activities and provide expert insights leading up to the tournament.
Afridi, a veteran of six T20 World Cups, captained Pakistan to victory in the 2009 edition, delivering a memorable Player of the Match performance in the final. He expressed excitement about the upcoming tournament, highlighting the expanded format with more teams and matches than ever before.
“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is an event that is very close to my heart,” Afridi said. “From being Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition to lifting the trophy in 2009, some of my favourite career highlights have come from competing on this stage."
He specifically anticipates the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash, scheduled for June 9 in New York.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will take place from June 1st to 29th across the USA and West Indies. The tournament kicks off with USA facing Canada in Texas, with the final scheduled for Barbados.
