The Walton-Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) six-a-side Media Football Tournament will begin on Wednesday at the Shaheed (Capt) M Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium in the capital.
Former footballer and lawmaker Abdus Salam Murshedy will inaugurate the tournament at 11 am on Wednesday, although the competition will begin at 8:30 am.
Fifty teams, including defending champions Channel i and runners-up Jagonews 24. com, from different newspapers, news agencies, and electronic media, split into eight groups, will compete on a knockout basis, exclusive to the journalists.
All the matches will be 20-minute affairs, 10 minutes in each half, with a five-minute break in the middle.
Later, eight group-champion teams will play in the quarterfinals.
DRU President Morsalin Nomani disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference at the Nasrul Hamid auditorium of DRU on Tuesday.
DRU General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel and the Senior Executive Director of the meet's sponsor Walton, FM Iqbal Bin Anwar, also spoke on the occasion, conducted by DRU Sports Secretary M Mahbubur Rahman.
Eleven matches will be held on the opening day, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.
