In their second match of the ICC World Cup 2023, Afghanistan won and posted a total of 271 runs while batting first, courtesy of half-centuries by Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai.
Afghanistan got off to a modest start, putting up 32 runs in 6.4 overs. However, their first wicket fell to Jasprit Bumrah as Ibrahim Zadran was caught behind.
The team faced a setback, losing three wickets with just 63 runs on the board.
In a crucial fourth-wicket partnership, Hashmatullah and Azmatullah contributed a significant 121 runs off 128 balls. This solidified Afghanistan's position and set a challenging target.

By the end of the 40th over, Afghanistan had amassed 211 runs. In the final 10 overs, they added another 60 runs to their total.
Jasprit Bumrah shone for India, claiming four wickets while conceding 39 runs in his 10-over spell. Hardik Pandya also secured two wickets.

Afghanistan faced a defeat in their first match against Bangladesh, whereas India emerged victorious against Australia in their opening encounter of the ICC World Cup 2023.
