Ismail Wolff will focus on various aspects of the organization’s human rights work in Southeast Asia.
“We’re thrilled to have Ismail on our growing team,” said Matthew Smith, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Fortify Rights.
“He has nearly two decades of experience working on human rights in this region, and he’ll draw on that to help lead us into the future.”
Ismail has lived and worked in Southeast Asia for nearly 20 years. In 2013, he founded the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR), an organization of current and former parliamentarians who advocate for democracy, justice, and an end to discrimination.
He served as APHR’s Executive Director since its founding.
Ismail also formerly worked as a Thailand Researcher with the International Secretariat of Amnesty International, as the Executive Director with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC), and as a print and broadcast journalist covering politics and human rights-related issues for many years.
He has written for the New York Times, the Guardian, BBC, Reuters, and elsewhere and was the Southeast Asia Correspondent for France 24, said a media release issued from Bangkok.
“I am honored to be joining the impressive team at Fortify Rights at a pivotal moment for the organization and for the wider struggle for human rights in Southeast Asia,” said Ismail Wolff.
Fortify Rights works to ensure rights for all and currently, it works in Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and Bangladesh.
