Mongolia on Monday launched a nationwide campaign to prevent crimes ahead of the traditional White Moon festival, or the Lunar New Year, which falls on Feb. 23 this year.
The campaign, which lasts until Feb. 28, focuses on crime prevention and improvement of citizens' legal education, Buyant Baatarkhuu, head of the press office of the National Police Agency, told reporters.
Hundreds of police officers and cadets will be deployed in the streets to prevent traffic accidents as the number of travelers increases dramatically during the holiday, he said.
The White Moon, which symbolizes the start of spring and the end of winter, is the most important holiday in Mongolia.
