The summoned retired leaders were Abdulrahman Kinana, former CCM secretary general, Yusuf Makamba, also former CCM secretary general, and Bernard Membe, former minister for foreign affairs and east african cooperation.
A statement issued by CCM Ideology and Publicity Secretary Humphrey Polepole at the end of the party's two-day National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Mwanza city said the three retired leaders should appear before the CCM National Security and Ethics Committee to respond to allegations facing them as provided for by the party's constitution.
The statement also said the NEC meeting received, discussed and endorsed a report by the CCM National Security and Ethics Committee in which CCM chairman, President John Magufuli, forgave three party members who had asked for clemency from him after they had admitted to have breached the party's ethics.
The three, Januari Makamba, Nape Nnauye and William Ngeleja, were all members of parliament and served as government ministers.
The statement said the NEC meeting warned the three forgiven CCM members not to repeat their indiscipline actions.
