Local administration conducted the drive from Tuesday morning till noon.
The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Umar Faruk found that the traders are selling potatoes over Tk 42 per kg while the government fixed Tk 30 per kg for potatoes at wholesale market.
Of the traders, M/s Cumilla Traders, Rafraf Banijjyaloy, M/s Mamun Traders, M/s Ma Bitan were fined Tk 20,000 each, while M/s Kusumpura Banijjyaloy, M/s Janani Traders, M/s Daudkandi Banijjyaloy were fined Tk 10,000 each and, New Rajmahal Banijjyaloy and M/s Ashish Laldhar and Brothers were fined Tk 5,000 each.
During the drive, Additional Magistrate of Local Administration Badiul Alam, said they are monitoring the markets but some unscrupulous traders are involved in selling potatoes at high price, violating the government order.
Legal action will be taken against those involved in selling potatoes at higher price, he said.
