A mobile court on Friday sentenced 13 fishermen to different jail terms for catching hilsa defying the ongoing fishing ban in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj.

Chauhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Anisur Rahman handed down the sentence.

The mobile court operated the drive after being tipped-off that fishermen were still netting mother hilsa at different points of the Jamuna River ignoring the government ban.

They seized 10kg hilsa and 25,000 metres of Current Jal during the drives.

Later, the fishes were donated to a local madrasa.
