An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) died after falling sick while he was on duty in Zorargonj Bazar area at Mirsharai upazila of the district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Selim Mia, 35, son of Abdur Razzak, of Chandpur’s Motlob thana. He was posted at Zorargonj police station.
Abdullah Al Harun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Zorargonj police station, said ASI Selim complained of chest pain while on duty in Zorargonj Bazar area at Mirsarai upazila of the district at about 10pm on Thursday.
He was taken to a nearby Baroirhat General Hospital immediately. Therehe was referred to Mastannagar Health Complex as his condition deteriorated. Doctors on duty declared him dead upon arrival.
Later, the body was sent to his village home, Abdullah Al Harun said.
Quoting doctors, the police officer said that ASI Selim died of cardiac arrest.
Selim Mia joined Bangladesh Police as a constable on December 27, 2008. He was promoted to ASI on November 11, 2016.
On November 11, 2023, he was posted at Zorarganj Police Station.
