The Bangladesh Dairy Development Board Bill, 2023 was passed in Parliament to produce quality milk and milk products.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim moved the Bill and it was passed by voice vote.
As per the draft law, there’ll be a board headed by the Fisheries and Livestock Minister as its chairman and a 19-member governing body will run the board.
The main functions of the board will be to provide suggestions and technical support over the rearing of domestic animals through scientific systems, medical services, and production and marketing of quality milk.

As per the objective of the Bill, there is no alternative to milk as a nutritious food for all people including children.
Apart from small and medium dairy farms, several large dairy companies have already been established in the country.
Through the Dairy Development Board, advice and technical assistance will be provided on scientific methods of cattle rearing, provision of medical services and management of quality milk production and marketing.

If a separate and specialised authority titled Bangladesh Dairy Development Board is created the opportunity to develop farm management, increase production of milk and diversification of dairy products as safe food in individuals and institutions level will be ensured.
