Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a special operation seized Indian contraband items worth over Tk 1 crore from an oil tanker in Habiganj on Tuesday.
A team BGB set up a checkpost along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway after being tipped-off that a consignment of smuggled goods was being transported from Sunamganj, said a media release from the BGB-55 Battalion on Wednesday.
Around noon on Tuesday, the team signaled a suspicious oil tanker to stop. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

During the search, BGB members discovered a large quantity of Indian cumin, facewash, and cosmetic items including Sunrise Skin Cream and Clop-G Cream, hidden inside the tanker’s fuel chamber in a concealed manner.
Smugglers had adopted the unique technique of concealing goods in oil tankers to avoid detection, according to the release.
The seized goods, with an estimated value of over Tk 1.1 crore, have been handed over to Habiganj Customs for legal procedures.
