Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed has issued twelve directives for Supreme Court staff, including not to take any undue advantage from justice seekers coming to the Supreme Court.

The chief justice gave these instructions to the officers and employees working in the Supreme Court during an event on Wednesday afternoon.

He also made it clear that any officer or employee found to be harassing citizens or engaging in financial transactions that violate these guidelines, including the established code of conduct, will face departmental action.

The Chief Justice said that in order to provide better services, the concerned officers and employees should follow the relevant rules of the Appellate and High Court Divisions, practice directions, circulars and other instructions issued at various times in the performance of their official duties.

The Supreme Court will create a role model for other institutions in the excellence of service delivery by providing good service and good treatment to the public seeking legal services and the lawyers appointed by them, the chief justice hoped.

The 12-point instructions comprise of: Code of conduct must be properly observed in the discharge of duties, ensuring service in the quickest time, avoiding any financial transaction while performing duties, avoiding unnecessary delay in providing service, showing compassionate behavior towards the service recipient, completing daily work every day, visiting branches daily by officials, taking disciplinary action in case of irregularities and absolutely no corruption.

In particular, he directed that the Assistant Registrars and Deputy Registrars of each branch should regularly inform their respective Additional Registrars about the activities of their branches and that the Additional Registrars should report their monitoring activities to the Registrar of High Courts and Appellate Divisions and the Registrar (Judiciary) every four weeks.
