State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday directed for completing the work on demarcation pillars, walkways, embankment protection dams and jetties along the Buriganga, Turag, Shitalakkha and Balu rivers in time.
He made the directive while addressing a meeting on the implementation of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) of his ministry.
The work on 1,000 boundary pillars, six jetties and 3.5-km walkways along the banks of the four rivers under the project has been completed while the foundation stones of 4,000 boundary pillars have been installed, said Khalid.
He also stressed the importance of dredging the Karnaphuli River and asked the officials concerned to launch ferry services from Bahadurabadghat, Jamalpur and Balashighat, Gaibandha on an experimental basis.
The Shipping Ministry implemented 49 projects at a cost of 4,713.31 crore in the 2019-20 fiscal year.
