The interim government has appointed new Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in 59 districts over two days, Monday and Tuesday. A group of aggrieved deputy secretaries, feeling excluded from these appointments, caused a commotion in protest.
The incident occurred at the office of Joint Secretary KM Ali Azam of the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday afternoon, where the officials shouted slogans, engaged in pushing, and exhibited unruly behavior.
Sources indicate that these officials were previously denied promotions during the tenure of the last Awami League government. They were recently promoted to the deputy secretary by the interim government and had hoped to be appointed as DCs.
On Monday, 25 new DCs were appointed, followed by another 34 on Tuesday. Disappointed at not seeing their names on the list, they resorted to protest.
